Glacier FarmMedia | MarketsFarm — As pulse crops across the country continue to develop, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada updated its estimates for dry peas and lentils. AAFC issued its July supply and demand report on July 21.
Dry peas
For 2025/26 dry peas, AAFC raised production by 75,000 tonnes at 3.20 million. That would be 203,000 tonnes more than the dry peas harvested in 2024/25.
The department placed the expected harvested area at 1.39 million hectares, up 109,000 from 2024/25. Meanwhile yields were forecast to slip to 2.30 tonnes per hectare from 2.34.

Also, AAFC upped its export estimate by 350,000 tonnes at two million tonnes, but that’s 300,000 short of last year’s exports.
The department held its domestic usage estimate for dry peas at 670,000 tonnes, an increase of 58,000 from 2024/25. Ending stocks stepped back 325,000 tonnes from June, at 975,000, but that’s a jump of 550,000 from the previous year.
Lentils
AAFC raised lentil production for 2025/26 by 125,000 tonne at 2.45 million tonnes, 19,000 more than harvested in 2024/25.
More area is projected to be harvested this year, at 1.75 million hectares, up 303,000 from a year ago. However yields dipped to 1.40 t/ha compared to 1.44 in 2024/25.
Exports were projected to be 2.10 million tonnes, the same as AAFC’s June report and 100,000 more than last year. Domestic use was held at 300,000 tonnes, down 26,000 from 2024/25.
Ending stocks increased 225,000 tonnes from last month to 530,000 tonnes, which would be 125,000 more than in 2024/25. AAFC pointed out more lentil production this year in the United States, 425,000 tonnes, of which Canada is one of its main export customers.
Cash prices
Prairie Ag Hotwire reported prices for dry peas and lentils were unchanged as of July 21. Green peas across the region remained at C$12.50 to C$17 per bushel delivered, while those for yellow peas were C$8 to C$10.25.
Lentil prices were also steady across the Prairies, with Lairds ranging from 25 to 50 cents per pound delivered, depending on the size. Estons were 21.5 to 38 cents/lb. and Richleas were 13.5 to 34. Also, Crimsons were priced at 18 to 30 cents/lb. delivered and French number ones were 32.5 to 35.
