John Deere refers to these tractors as “smart machines” and calls them the most intelligent tractors in the world. Deere’s 2011 8R/RT series tractors span from the 8235R at 235 hp up to the 8360RT rated at 360 hp. The 8260R at 260 hp and 8285R at 285 hp are the other models under 300 hp. All these tractors feature the new CommandView II cab with ActiveSeat. According to Deere, the ActiveSeat provides the operator with an enhanced ride quality over standard air-suspension seats by utilizing electrohydraulic technology in combination with air suspension.

The new John Deere PowerTech PSX 9.0-litre engine powers the 8R/RT models. To comply with emission standards (IT4), Deere developed an advanced engine system using cooled exhaust-gas recirculation (or EGR) and pairs it with an exhaust filter. The company says this single-fluid solution does not compromise performance, reliability, or ease of operation. That means no DEF is required on John Deere tractors to meet emission standards.
New and unique to the John Deere 8R/RT tractors is the Active Command Steering or ACS. Deere calls it the most robust and full-encompassing steering system in the industry. It has four key features: dynamic road wheel offset control; variable ratio steering; elimination of steering slop and hand wheel drift; and variable effort steering. The ACS system is “fail operational,” which means steering is still functional in the event of any single point failure. www.mdeere. co
