“We’re all about simplicity,” says Kevin Bien, the combine marketing specialist from Gleaner. Gleaner offers the A6 series, A66 (300 hp), A76 (350 hp) and A86 (425 hp). It also has the R6 series, R66 (300 hp) and the R76 (350 hp), which are “transverse combines” with the rotor parallel to the grain head.

The simplicity theme permeates the thinking surrounding these combines. There are fewer chains and gearboxes and therefore less maintenance. The R6 series features the exclusive accelerator rolls and transverse flow fan that allows for better pre-cleaning before the grain reaches the shoe.

The A86 comes with a complete fold-down tank which goes down flat to the top of the cab at the touch of a button in the cab. It is powered by a C13 ACERT engine and has a tank capacity of 350 bushels that can be unloaded in 88 seconds. Its rotor is powered by a hydrostatic system, which drives a three-speed heavy-duty gearbox. This rotor takes in crop from the patented intake, which uses edge-hardened flighting that gives positive motion into the threshing system, causing minimal damage to the crop mat.
