WINNIPEG, Sep. 17 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– Hurricane Sally was downgraded to a tropical depression, but was still bringing heavy rains and flooding along the southeastern United States on Thursday. At least one person has died from the storm, with hundreds of thousands without power.

– Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will consult with opposition leaders this week ahead of the upcoming throne speech next week. Holding a minority government, the Liberals need the support of at least one opposition party in order to maintain power and avoid an election.

– New jobless claims in the U.S. declined slightly in the latest week, but with 860,000 people filing for unemployment claims are still about four-times ahead of what was reported prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
