  • The coal powered Trypilska thermal power plant near Kyiv was destroyed by a Russian missile and drone strike, according to the reports on Thursday. As well, Russia damaged several other power plants throughout Ukraine. Russian officials said the strikes were in retaliation for Ukraine launching drone attacks on a number of oil facilities deep inside Russia.

  • Lufthansa extended its suspension of its flights to Tehran on Thursday, as the Middle East prepares for Iranian attacks. On Apr. 1, the Israeli air force reportedly struck an Iranian embassy compound in Damascus that killed seven military advisors. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stated Israel “must be punished and it shall be.” A spokesperson for the German airline said the suspension of its flights will now continue until Apr. 13.

 

  • The United States Department of Justice weighed in on a U.S. district court ruling in Wisconsin that pertains to Enbridge’s Line 5, according to a report on Wednesday. In a brief filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals, Justice officials stated that while Line 5 does trespass on land belonging to the Bad River Reservation, the court’s ruling failed to account for “trade and diplomatic relationship with and treaty obligations to Canada.”

 

  • Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau testified at the Hogue Inquiry on Wednesday, stating under oath that he and Liberal Party campaign director Jeremy Broadhurst understood they were to keep secret possible Chinese interference in a party nomination ahead of the 2019 federal election. However, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service claimed it advised the Liberal Party to revoke the nomination of Han Dong, who subsequently became the Liberal MP for Don Valley North. The inquiry is looking into foreign interference in Canadian elections.
