Aug. 30 (CNS Canada) – The following is a glance at the news
moving markets in Canada and globally.

– Canadian and American negotiators continue to try and
hammer out an agreement on the North American Free Trade
Agreement with a Friday deadline looming. After U.S.
President Donald Trump said the U.S. had reached a deal with
Mexico on Monday, he said Canada and the U.S. must strike a

within reach but it depends on whether it’s a good one for
Canada.

– Almost all Conservative MPs asked in an e-mail survey said
they would not join a right-wing party being set up by
Quebec MP Maxime Bernier. The survey, conducted by the Globe
and Mail, gave all Conservative MPs three possible answers:
yes, no or maybe. In all, 92 of 96 MPs answered “no”, and
four did not respond. Bernier left the Conservative party
last week, criticizing its policies of support for supply
management and for being soft on immigration.

– U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders said he would bring in a
special tax for companies like Amazon, whose workers collect
food stamps and other forms of government assistance. Amazon

disputes the idea, saying its pay is competitive with other
retailers. Walmart was also singled out in a series of
Sanders Facebook videos.
