– Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Liberals scored a fourth straight term in Canada’s federal election on Monday, completing a remarkable turnaround. The Liberals were elected or leading in 168 seats when Elections Canada paused vote counting early this morning. As of press time, it is unclear whether the Liberals will win the 172 seats needed in the House of Commons to form a majority government. The Conservatives were elected or leading in 144 seats and will form the Official Opposition despite holding a massive polling lead just three months ago. Pierre Poilievre said he plans to stay on as party leader after losing his seat. The Bloc Quebecois took 23 seats, while the New Democrats suffered their worst showing with seven seats. Jagmeet Singh, who lost his seat, resigned from the NDP leadership. Elizabeth May was elected as the only Green Party MP.
