  • Tensions between Russia and Japan ramped up after the latter announced earlier this week it will indirectly supply United States-built Patriot air defence missiles to Ukraine. While Japanese law prevents the country from directly supplying military weapons to a country at war, it will return the Patriots to the U.S., who will send them on to Ukraine. Russia warned Japan that the move will come with “grave consequences.”

  • Israeli forces continued on Thursday to press its attacks and bombardments on Gaza. Reports said tens of thousands of refugees who told to flee to central Gaza were now attempting to escape the fighting between Hamas and Israeli Defence Forces. After 12 weeks of fighting, Palestinian Health Authority said almost one per cent of the Gaza Strip’s population has been killed.

 

  • London-based oil trader Mandara Capital announced on Thursday that it’s shutting down its operations. Reports said Mandara traded derivatives contracts that included crude oil and refined products. Company founder Muwaffaq Salti has so far declined to say why he’s closing Mandara.
