- Israeli Defense Forces doubled their daily targets in the Gaza Strip on Friday, launching more than 450 assaults from land, sea, and air. As the United Nations again warned Gaza was “on the verge of a full-blown collapse,” the United States rebuked Israel for the increased death toll of civilians. “It remains imperative that Israel put a premium on civilian protection. And there does remain a gap between…the intent to protect civilians and the actual results that we’re seeing on the ground,” stated U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

- Job growth in the U.S. during November exceeded analysts’ expectations, according to data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday. The report found 199,000 non-farm jobs were added to the U.S. economy last month, which lowered the country’s unemployment rate to 3.7 per cent. That’s compared to predictions of 180,000 additional jobs with unemployment holding steady at 3.9 per cent. With this data, indications are the U.S. Federal Reserve won’t increase its key interest rates next week.
- Canada Bread Co. Ltd. stated in court documents that it was directed by its majority owner at the time, Maple Leaf Foods, to price-fix bread earlier this year. Reports on Friday said Canada Bread claimed it didn’t profit from the scheme. Meanwhile, Maple Leaf denied the allegations, calling them “totally unfounded.” In June, Canada Bread was fined C$50 million for its role in price-fixing bread and bread products with Weston Foods.
- Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Friday that he’s again seeking re-election. The 71-year-old former Soviet spy initially became president in 2000 and served until 2008 due to term limits at the time. He served as Russia’s prime minister and its de facto leader from 2008 to 2012. After being re-elected in 2012, Putin has been president since and should he win in March, that would keep him in office until 2030. Putin is the longest-serving Soviet/Russian leader since Joseph Stalin.
