- The Israeli military has ordered an evacuation of Rafah ahead of an anticipated assault on the southern Gaza city. The move came as both Hamas and Israel blamed each other for a breakdown in truce negotiations. Rafah is a densely populated city that has seen an influx of up to a million Palestinians fleeing the fighting elsewhere in the territory.
- Russia announced plans Monday to conduct nuclear weapon drills “in the near future,” claiming the escalation was in response to European leaders sending troops to Ukraine and voicing stronger military support to the country.
- Chinese President Xi Jinping is in Europe this week for the first time in five years, with trade and geopolitical relations at the top of the agenda.
