Global Markets: Iran response muted to Israel drone attacks

  • Israel reportedly launched a drone attack an Iranian air base near the city of Isfahan early Friday. The attack was said to be limited in scope, with Iran’s air defenses countering the drone strikes. Iran has so far said there were no plans for retaliation.

 

  • India’s federal election is underway with the first round of voting in the six-week process beginning on Friday. India will elect 543 members to its lower house of Parliament, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his populist party looking to retain power for a third term.

 

  • A Russian strategic bomber was shot down by Ukraine, according to Kyiv officials. The warplane was the first to be taken down by Ukrainian antiaircraft missiles since the war between the two countries began in 2022. Russian officials denied the attack and claimed the plane crashed due to a technical malfunction.
