Global Markets: Haley suspends presidential campaign

  • Nikki Haley will suspend her presidential campaign after losing to Donald Trump in 14 of the 15 states that held Republican primaries on Super Tuesday, March 5. With Haley stepping aside, that all but guarantees the United States presidential election in November will see a rematch between Trump and current Democratic President Joe Biden. Haley, the former Governor of South Carolina, also served as Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations.

 

  • Ukrainian drones hit fuel facilities at a large Russian iron ore plant on Wednesday, according to reports, although plant officials claim the plant continued to operate as normal.

 

  • The Bank of Canada held its key interest rate unchanged at 5.0 per cent Wednesday morning, as had been widely anticipated. In an accompanying statement, the Bank said it “is still concerned about risks to the outlook for inflation, particularly the persistence in underlying inflation.”
