– Canadians go to the polls today for the federal election with all 345 seats in the House of Commons up for grabs. The election was called on March 23 by Liberal Party leader and Prime Minister Mark Carney, just two weeks after being elected by party members to replace Justin Trudeau. Since Prime Minister Mark Carney replaced Justin Trudeau, Liberal Party fortunes have greatly improved against Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives to the point where most polls project a Liberal majority government. The election has also become a ballot question on who would be best to deal with United States President Donald Trump with his “51st state” remarks and tariff concerns. Polls are open from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. local times.
