WINNIPEG, April 23, 2018 (CNS) – The following is a glance
at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.
While a rail strike was temporarily averted after the
federal labour minister ordered employees of Canadian
Pacific Railway Ltd. to vote on the company’s final offer,
a strike is still possible. An electronic vote on the
offers will be conducted by the Canada Industrial Relations
Board at an undetermined date. If the offer is rejected,
workers will be free to strike.

Kinder Morgan for the Trans Mountain expansion backlash.
The poll, conducted by the Angus Reid Institute, found 58
per cent of those surveyed agreed that Kinder Morgan could
have done a better job of earning public support for the
project and therefore have brought the protests on
themselves.
Senior trade officials from the United States, Canada
and Mexico are meeting again in Washington, DC on Tuesday
in an intensified push to reach a North American Free Trade
agreement in the next few weeks. This week’s talks are set
to be the broadest and biggest since the final official
negotiating round held in Mexico City in early March.
Topics will include automotive rules, agriculture and legal
and institutional matters such as dispute settlement
mechanisms.
