– Canada’s Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault announced on Tuesday that regulations are being finalized to phase out the sale of combustion engine passenger vehicles by 2035. Automakers will also be mandated to increase the number of electric vehicles they offer for sale every year, including ensuring that 20 per cent of new cars on the market are either battery-powered or hybrid vehicles by 2026. However, car companies said that more government rebates and a greater amount of charging stations are needed to convince people to buy electric vehicles.

– The Colorado Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that former United States President Donald Trump is ineligible to run for president in the state for the 2024 presidential election and will have his name removed from the ballot. The court decided in a 4-3 decision that Trump violated the insurrection clause of the U.S. Constitution’s 14th Amendment, relating to the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. The court will stay its ruling until Jan. 4, which will give time for the U.S. Supreme Court to hear the case.
– Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas’ top leader, visited Cairo on Wednesday to restart talks with Israel, mediated by Egypt and Qatar, in the hopes of another ceasefire in the war between the Palestinian militant group and the country. It is expected Hamas will continue to advocate for the release of political prisoners in exchange for Israeli captives, which Israel has so far refused to do.
