– Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada released its September principal field crop estimates on Sept. 26. The production forecast for 2025-26 canola was 20.028 million tonnes. Some in the trade believe the crop could exceed 21 million. Exports were projected to be seven million tonnes, compared to 9.331 million in 2024-25, while carryout is to be 2.5 million. All wheat production was slated at 36.624 million tonnes, with exports at 27 million and carryout at 5.2 million. Durum wheat, barley, corn, oats, rye and flax all saw year-by-year production increases, while mixed grains and soybeans were down.

– Deloitte Canada released an economic forecast on Monday, predicting there will be no technical recession this year and anticipating gains in 2026. Deloitte forecast annualized third quarter growth of 1.2 per cent in the third quarter, 1.5 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2025 and 1.7 per cent in all of 2026. The report also said tariffs will continue to harm the Canadian economy, but they are less than those imposed on other countries. It also predicted the Bank of Canada will cut its key interest rate to 2.25 per cent before the end of the year.
– Moldova’s pro-European Party of Action and Solidarity won the country’s parliamentary election on Sunday with 50.2 per cent of the vote. Meanwhile, the Russia-aligned Patriotic Electoral Bloc received 24.2 per cent. European Union members alleged there were disinformation and vote-buying schemes by Russia to interfere with the election, of which Russia has denied. The former Soviet republic located between Ukraine and Romania is seeking membership into the EU by 2030.
