Global Markets: 2023 marks warmest year on record

  • The earth saw its warmest year on record in 2023, with average global temperatures likely hitting their highest level of the past 100,000 years, according to new research from the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service. On average, temperatures in 2023 were 1.48 degrees Celsius warmer than the 1850-1900 pre-industrial period.

 

  • Gabriel Attal was named as France’s prime minister on Tuesday, becoming the youngest ever person to hold the position at 34-years-old. President Emmanuel Macron appointed Attal after his predecessor Elisabeth Borne resigned Monday amid political turmoil over immigration.

 

  • Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah continued to trade fire across the Israel/Lebanon border on Tuesday, with the increasing attacks raising concerns that the war in Gaza will spread into a wider regional conflict.
