If you see a whole lot of people wearing green November 5, you’ll know that it’s Show Your 4-H Coloursday, which is part of November National 4-H month.
The international program for youth 7 to 25 years old, started in Roland, Manitoba in 1913.
As of next year it will have been helping young Canadians reach their full potential for 100 years.
Members between the ages of 7 (as of and including birthdays January 1, 2013) and 25, can “Learn to do by Doing” — take digital photos, grow plants, groom and show an animal, fix an engine, build a birdhouse, bake bread, scrapbook, sew some shorts, care for a small animal, ride a horse, canoe and camp. And that’s just for starters.
Adults too can benefit from the 4-H program, which offers fun for the whole family. Along with helping kids with projects, parents and grandparents can get involved in activities and share in the learning process. Imagine…..making a difference through community service activities and events.
The ongoing support from the schools, businesses, organizations and individuals has continued to make 4-H available to the youth of the area. The life skills, teamwork, and community spirit that 4-Her’s learn while in program are the benefit.
