Prairie grain handler and processor Richardson International has ramped up its canola crushing capacity in eastern Saskatchewan with an expansion now on line.
The previously announced expansion work, valued at about $30 million, brings the company’s crushing capacity at Yorkton, Sask. up to 3,000 tonnes per day from 2,400 previously.
The plant, which began processing at the expanded pace on April 1, now has capacity to process over one million tonnes of canola per year, the company said Tuesday.
The expansion work included upgrades to the plant’s truck receiving system, with a third truck receiving pit and a “fully automated” delivery system.
Between its plants at Yorkton and Lethbridge, Richardson said it can now process up to about 1.5 million tonnes of canola per year.
The company said Tuesday it “continues to explore opportunities to increase canola crushing capacity” at the Lethbridge site.
Louis Dreyfus Commodities, which also operates a major canola crushing plant at Yorkton, last spring announced expansion work which would bring the plant’s capacity to the same level as the expanded Richardson facility. — AGCanada.com Network
