Monsanto Canada will follow the new structure of its U.S. parent by naming separate presidents for the company’s Roundup herbicide business and its seed and trait division.
Lisa Safarian, who from August 2008 until now had been Monsanto Canada’s president and general manager, has moved back to the parent company’s hometown of St. Louis, Mo., in a new role as seeds and traits business lead for Latin America North and Canada.
Reporting to Safarian from Monsanto Canada’s Winnipeg headquarters will be Ryan Baldwin, in the newly created role of president for Monsanto Canada’s seed and trait division.

Baldwin has worked for Monsanto since 2003, most recently as its sales director for Western Canada, a post which included leading the company’s forestry business.
His new job will be to lead Monsanto’s Canadian seed and trait operations in both Eastern and Western Canada, including “reinforcing the long-term strategic importance of canola to Monsanto’s overall Canadian business and leveraging the company’s corn and soybean pipeline in Eastern Canada,” the company said in a release.
He will also play an “active role” with Monsanto Canada’s Grower Advisory Council, a strategic advisory body made up of executive members from several farmer groups across the country, the company said.
Meanwhile, Monsanto Canada’s marketing director for canola and crop protection, Cory McArthur, will take on the other newly created role of president for Monsanto Canada’s Roundup division.
McArthur has worked for Monsanto Canada for 10 years in posts such as manager of Monsanto’s chemistry business in Western and Eastern Canada; customer strategy lead; and western licensing business manager. He has a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Saskatchewan.
