Thirty-three farms in New Brunswick, 20 on Prince Edward Island and 18 in Newfoundland and Labrador will open their doors to the public as part of those provinces’ Open Farm Day, set for Sept. 23 (Sunday).
The event will be held on the same day as Nova Scotia’s Open Farm Day and is also presented in partnership with the Sobeys grocery store chain, but will feature a different theme: “Farmers Feed Communities” in New Brunswick and “Fresh, Healthy and Local” in P.E.I.

New Brunswick Agriculture Minister Ron Ouellette said the event is “about getting to know more about how the high-quality and healthy food is produced, while providing an enjoyable family experience.”
His P.E.I. counterpart, Neil LeClair, said members of the public who attend the event “will have a first-hand opportunity to see how our products are produced and learn more from the people who produce them.”
The event also serves as the kickoff for the federally-sponsored Canadian Agriculture and Food Celebration.
Sobeys grocery stores will provide copies of the maps of participating farms, also available on the Agricultural Alliance of New Brunswick’s web site, the P.E.I. government’s agriculture department site and the Newfoundland and Labrador natural resources department site.
