The final few in a series of public meetings to help develop the sequel to the Growing Forward ag policy funding framework have been cancelled.
On the “industry and public engagement” page at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s website for Growing Forward 2 — a page last updated Tuesday — the federal government said the “in-person and online engagement” portions of the Growing Forward development process are now “suspended.”

Those include “engagement sessions” that had been scheduled for Wednesday (March 30) at the Delta Prince Edward in Charlottetown and at the Hilton Garden Inn in Saskatoon — as well as the final scheduled session, which had been set for Thursday (March 31) at the Regina Inn in Regina.
The meetings, billed as part of Phase 2 of the Growing Forward 2 engagement strategy, were meant to “provide a forum to hear public and industry views and receive feedback on policy priorities.”
The notice on the AAFC website didn’t give a reason for the suspension of the meetings. However, writs were issued Saturday and campaigning is already well underway for a federal election to be held May 2.
The current five-year Growing Forward policy agreement between Canada’s federal, provincial and territorial governments expires March 31, 2013. A successor agreement “must be ready for implementation” by April 1 that year, according to AAFC.
