Saskatoon-based ag input buying group Farmers of North America has become a partner in the Ontario Federation of Agriculture’s member benefits program.
Effective immediately, OFA members will receive a "significant discount" on the price of a membership in FNA, which would allow them to access FNA programs and services such as lower-cost inputs.
"At FNA, we see a future where the farmer is in control, whether it’s the price they pay for inputs or the direction they take agriculture policy," Bob Friesen, vice-president of government relations with FNA, said in a release Wednesday.

FNA, he said, plans to "work closely with Ontario farmers to identify Ontario-specific empowerment programs."
"We believe there are synergies between our organizations that will immediately benefit Ontario farmers, and those benefits will continue to grow," OFA president Mark Wales, a vegetable producer at Aylmer, Ont., said in the same release.
FNA’s mandate "complements the valuable work that OFA does in policy and regulation for farmers in Ontario," the OFA said in its release. The partnership agreement, OFA said, is "designed to increase and strengthen both organizations."
On top of its supply agreements for goods such as fertilizers, crop protection products and farm machinery parts, FNA’s programs include:
- the Preferred Suppliers program, which offers discounts to FNA members at suppliers’ retail or wholesale points of sale;
- FNA Foods, to help farmers get market premiums on food crops; and
- FNA-STAG (Strategic Agriculture Institute), offering extension-style programs aimed at improving farm profitability.
The agreement with OFA was announced Wednesday during the Western Fair Farm Show at London, Ont.
