MarketsFarm — Feed grains prices have been softening as old-crop and new-crop prices converge during harvest.
Tracy Green, a grain broker with Market Master Ltd. in Edmonton, said Feedlot Alley is “well-covered” and waiting for harvest.
However, buyers in central Alberta are seeing prices around $237 delivered for old-crop barley. For deliveries into Lethbridge for later in the fall, prices are around $220.
“We’ve been seeing small premiums for quick delivery,” Green said. “Anything new-crop that could come off early, but mainly for feed wheat. For the first week or two of September, there’s a small premium for that.”
That’s beneficial for parts of southern Alberta that are dry enough for harvest to be well underway.
“Any areas that aren’t combining at that time, it won’t help, because they won’t have it off in time. But areas that are combining in late August and early September have a premium available.”
