The federal government has pledged more than $2.2 million to expand halal beef processing on Prince Edward Island.

The $2.26 million payment will support processor Atlantic Beef Products in Albany, P.E.I. to upgrade it’s packaging technology, cleaning and safety equipment, and to increase meat yield.

Atlantic Beef Products processes about 750 cattle per week and employs around 180 people.

The federal government flagged the investment as in line with its Buy Canadian Policy, which includes measures to support small and medium-sized Canadian businesses.
