Saskatchewan’s canaryseed and mustard growers have new management for their commodity groups.
Saskatoon ag communications consultant Kevin Hursh, well known in the province for his weekly columns on farm issues, took over Sept. 1 as executive director of the Saskatchewan Mustard Development Commission and the Canaryseed Development Commission of Saskatchewan.
Adele Buettner of AgriBiz, a Saskatoon management and communications firm for the ag industry, becomes general manager for both groups, which will now be headquartered at the AgriBiz office in Saskatoon, on 45th Street West near John G. Diefenbaker International Airport.

Fund traders flip to net short in canola futures
Speculative fund traders have moved to a net short position in canola futures for the first time in five months, according to the latest Commitments of Traders report from the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
“Hursh Consulting and Communications has a history of working with the grains and specialty crop industries, so we see this as an expansion of our services,” Hursh said in a release Thursday.
“Kevin and I have collaborated on a number of projects over the years and I am very pleased that we are able to work together on behalf of mustard and canaryseed producers,” Buettner said in the same release. “The potential for growth in production and marketing for these crops is most encouraging,”
The Saskatchewan Canola Development Commission had previously provided managerial services for both commodity groups.
