China seeks improved ties with Canada amid rising trade tensions
China called on Friday for steps to improve bilateral ties with Canada, saying there were no deep-seated conflicts of interest, following a spike in trade tensions with many of Beijing’s Western trade partners this year.
I think I’ve heard enough about needing to use certified flax seed. Like what, make a few people rich by screwing over the producers? I think not. Have we not learned from BSE, for example? Are age verification and tags making you or me a big pile of money? The answer is no — just the companies making tags and the stores that sell them. Where are the researchers now, after letting this seed out when no one in the world wants it? Is there no accountability? They should have to pay for this mess, as should the person who thinks cows should need to eat other animals and feces and who knows what kind of chemicals instead of grass and grain. There is only one way to correct the problem, and that is to test every load hauled in. If I have to pay a little extra, then so be it, even though I think the person who invented it should get the bill. — Ed Serbu
“B.C. Alzheimer’s study finds marijuana no help,” Feb. 9
Your headline is completely misleading. This is like that bogus study that used tobacco to prove marijuana causes cancer just because they share some ingredients. All this study proves is that synthetic marijuana is crap. Only a study that uses actual marijuana will prove anything concerning marijuana’s medical benefits. — Michael Dare
“B.C. Alzheimer’s study finds marijuana no help,” Feb. 9
I am strongly involved in the marijuana community and have numerous patients who would disagree with these tainted findings — first off, saying that marijuana is ineffective, when the study was on a synthetic form of medicine, is malice, and out of place. The article should have been titled “Pharmaceutical companies can’t match Mother Nature.” Cannabinoids found in real marijuana can’t be duplicated; neither can all of their intricately woven chemicals. THC is generally the only compound that these companies focus on. Most people who try these artificial chemicals do have adverse side effects. — Cam Mckinnon
“Yukon names new minister for agriculture,” Feb. 5
Thank you for including ag info from the Yukon. Our daughter Teresa lives in Whitehorse and when we visited in 2001 she arranged for us to visit a “farm” — a family with about 40 acres that had a variety of animals, a small field of oats, a large garden and their own beautiful two-storey log house. His off-farm work is as a school teacher and her occupation is home-schooling the family. He was originally from a small community about 20 miles south of us so we had some acquaintances in common. To have something locally grown in the Yukon is a real treat! — Isabel Acheson
