Manitoba corn, sunflower, soybean, edible bean and pulse growers with crops still on the field have been granted extensions on their deadlines to apply under the 2009 advance payments program (APP).
Producers who still have unharvested crop that’s insured by crop insurance will now have more time to apply for pre-production advances and also to finalize their post-production advances, the Manitoba Corn Growers Association said in a release Monday.
Thus, Manitoba producers now have until Jan. 29, 2010 to apply for a pre-production APP advance on their unharvested crop, provided they have valid crop insurance.

Those who already have their pre-production advances now have until June 30, 2010 to submit their post-production worksheets.
These extensions apply to only the crop that’s unharvested, MCGA emphasized. Producers who have harvested some of the crops that have been included in their advance must file their post-production worksheets by Dec. 15, 2009 on the harvested portion.
The APP is Ottawa’s loan guarantee program to help crop and livestock producers get easier access to credit through cash advances and meet financial obligations by improving cash flow throughout the year.
The MCGA said it had filed a request with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada to extend the 2009 deadlines “in response to the late harvest faced by many producers in Manitoba and much of Western Canada.”
