In its regular biweekly crop report, Alberta Agriculture says the province’s harvest for another year is virtually complete, with both high yield and high quality.
Harvest is estimated to be 98.4 per cent complete leaving less than 300,000 acres to finish, the report said. Approximately half of the outstanding acreage is canola which has been left to cure to reduce green seed count. The remainder comprises of small acreages of wheat, barley, canola, flax and sugar beets.
The report says crop quality is very good though protein content may be lower than average. Ninety-two per cent of the HRS wheat and 80 per cent of the durum wheat is reported to be grading #1 or #2. Twenty-five per cent of the barley is of malt quality with a further 70 per cent grading 1 CW. 100 per cent of the oats are grading 3 CW or better with 89 per cent of the canola grading 1 Can., and 78 per cent of the field pea crop is grading #1 or #2.

The 2014 winter cereal crop is in good shape despite the drier conditions in southern and central Alberta. Sixty-five per cent of the crop is rated in good/excellent condition and only three per cent is rated poor.
Fall precipitation would be welcomed in all areas of the province with the exception of the Peace region, the report said.
