Glacier FarmMedia — The Canadian dollar remained relatively steady on Tuesday despite another day of losses for crude oil.
The loonie closed at US$0.7227 or US$1=C$1.3837 on Tuesday, compared to US$0.7228 or US$1=C$1.3835 on Monday.
The United States Dollar Index declined 0.23 of a point at 98.20.
Crude oil prices corrected themselves as uncertainty over progress in peace efforts between Russia and Ukraine reigned supreme on the markets. West Texas Intermediate lost US$1.46 per barrel at US$63.34. Brent crude oil dropped US$1.51/barrel at US$67.29.
The TSX/S&P Composite Index regained its Monday losses, adding 169.94 points at 28,339.88.
Gold jumped US$21.90 per ounce at $3,439.40.
