WINNIPEG, September 28 – The Canadian dollar weakened against
its US counterpart Monday, as concerns over China’s economy edged
back into currency markets.

At 8:40 a.m. CDT the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7497 or C$1.3387
which compares with Friday’s North American close of US$0.7510, or
C$1.3316.

Chinese industrial firms’ profits dropped 8.8 per cent in August
from the same time frame a year earlier, new data shows, which sent
currency markets spiraling.

No significant economic data was released by Statistics Canada
on Monday.

The TSX was weaker in early activity, down 113.5 points at 8:40
a.m. CDT to sit at 13,265.10.
