The web arm of Canadian Cattlemen magazine and the mobile app for Grainews were among the winners at the fifth annual Canadian Online Publishing Awards announced Wednesday in Toronto.
CanadianCattlemen.ca earned a silver award for best overall companion website in the Blue (business-to-business, professional association, farm, scholarly) division at the COPA show.
Grainews Mobile, meanwhile, also earned COPA silver for best smartphone app (Blue division). The app is available in iPhone, Android and Blackberry versions through those devices’ respective app stores and through AgReader Mobile.

CanadianCattlemen.ca was also one of five finalists Wednesday for best news coverage in the Blue division.
Other multiple Blue-division award winners at COPA this year included Canadian Business, Sparksheet, the Ryersonian, University Affairs and the UBC Graduate School of Journalism.
COPA is produced by Masthead Online, a trade magazine website for the Canadian magazine and info-publishing industries. COPA also honours online work by Canadian news media (Green division) and consumer magazines (Red division).
Awards
The two COPA awards for online work by Farm Business Communications — the Winnipeg-based publisher of the AGCanada.com Network of websites and of Canadian Cattlemen, Grainews and the Manitoba Co-operator, among others — follow a silver last month for best website for ManitobaCooperator.ca at the Canadian Farm Writers Federation awards banquet at Agassiz, B.C.
Also for online work, Grainews field editor Lisa Guenther earned CFWF gold for daily news reporting, for a Grainews.ca article on Canada’s plans for retaliatory tariffs against U.S. country-of-origin labelling.
Individual Farm Business Communications staff writers and contributors also earned two gold, three silver and two bronze awards at the CFWF event for news, feature and column writing and photography.
Also this year, Manitoba Co-operator staff and contributors earned a gold and two silver awards for writing in the North American Agricultural Journalists’ annual writing contest. The NAAJ awards were announced in April in Washington, D.C. — AGCanada.com Network
