Saskatchewan air seeder manufacturer Seed Hawk will collaborate with South Dakota-based Raven Industries on a new control system for precision seeding.

The two companies announced Tuesday that a new set of Raven precision application and planter section controls will be offered starting this fall on the Seed Hawk line of seeders, controlling multiple functions from one field computer, the Raven Viper Pro.

The first such control system will combine fertilizer and seed section control from Raven with Seed Hawk’s seeder technology. The system, called Sectional Control Technology, would “virtually eliminate costly seed and fertilizer overlaps automatically for the customer,” the two companies said.

The system will be offered through Seed Hawk’s dealer network starting this fall, with more such systems expected to follow.

“With a good working agreement in place, our companies can share ideas freely, which will lead to faster solutions,” said Pat Beaujot, president of Seed Hawk, based at Langbank, about 150 km south of Yorkton.

“This new collaboration further demonstrates Raven’s commitment to expand its product line into seeding and planting applications,” said Matt Burkhart, general manager for applied technology at Raven, based at Sioux Falls.

Raven’s operations include a Canadian division, formerly known as Montgomery Industries, based at Stockholm, Sask., about 75 km north of Langbank. Montgomery makes the AutoBoom automatic boom height control system.
