The Canadian wing of Cargill will sell its ag input retail site at Cudworth in north-central Saskatchewan to a local fertilizer company it partly owns.
Horizon Fertilizers, which operates retail locations at nearby Humboldt, Bruno and Lake Lenore and an anhydrous distribution site at Watson, will buy the site at Cudworth for an undisclosed sum.
The sale takes effect Wednesday (April 15), the company said.
Cargill Ltd., which is a joint-venture partner in Horizon, said it will still provide grain marketing support to farmers around Cudworth, about 80 km south of Prince Albert.

Farmers north of Wakaw (about 20 km north of Cudworth) who dealt with Cargill for ag inputs at Cudworth would now get support through Cargill’s facility at Birch Hills, about 40 km southeast of Prince Albert. Farmers south of Wakaw would deal with Cargill at Clavet, abut 20 km southeast of Saskatoon.
Cargill AgHorizons regional manager Blaine Duncan said the company will honuor all previously contracted crop input purchases targeted for spring application.
As well, Cargill said in a release Tuesday, its Clavet office would assist Cudworth customers with their grain cheques, pricing and administrative inquiries.
“We are pleased to be able to support the crop input needs of this region’s producers, including the provision of anhydrous fertilizers,” said Gary Pappenfoot, manager for Horizon Fertilizers, in Cargill’s release, noting the company has “maintained the services” of two Cudworth staff members, Norm Lang and Deb Burtney.
Humboldt-based Horizon is diversified into seed and crop protection products as well as short-line ag equipment sales and rentals, plus sales of Outback GPS systems, Traeger barbecue grills, and assorted fitness equipment.
