DuPont Canada has picked up federal regulators’ approval for aerial application of its Group 2 herbicide Refine SG.
“Aerial applicators and growers have been asking for this solution for a few years, so this will be good news for them,” said Travis Schoonbaert, DuPont’s cereals and oilseeds product manager, in a press release Thursday.
Refine SG is a dry sulfonylurea herbicide that uses the company’s Solumax chemistry to imitate a liquid by dissolving “completely” into a clear solution when mixed with water.
“That means it is easier to remove product residue from the tank, minimizing the impact to subsequently sprayed crops like peas or canola,” the company wrote.
The product is registered to control or suppress 29 broadleaf weeds, with control of wild buckwheat at the five-leaf stage as well as control of narrow-leaved hawk’s-beard, flixweed, hemp-nettle and chickweed. It has no recropping restrictions for the crop year following application, the company noted.
