The Canadian Wheat Board has announced its identity-preserved contract programs (IPCPs) for the 2008-09 crop year.
The programs are aimed either at new varieties for market development purposes or varieties that require ongoing segregation to meet customer requirements. Farmers who take part can receive incentives such as contract and storage payements and guaranteed delivery.
For the 2008-09 crop year there will be two market-development IPCPs:
- Canada Western Extra-Strong Amber Durum (AC Commander): Marketed for its gluten strength and bright yellow colour, this variety is prized for these assets when blending with other durum to improve overall quality. Participating producers will recieve guaranteed acceptance and delivery for eligible milling grades and storage payments.
- Canada Western Hard White wheat (Snowbird and Kanata): Hard white wheat is used for both bread making and white noodles without “flecks” of bran in them. Acceptance levels will be determined by market opportunities.

There will also be three commercial IPCP contracts for the coming crop year:
- Canada Western Red Winter Select wheat (AC Bellatrix, AC Readymade, AC Tempest, CDC Buteo, CDC Osprey, McClintock, Norstar and Radiant): Contract payments of $10 a tonne and up for protein levels of 11 per cent or higher with acceptance determined by market opportunities. Delivery will be sourced through guaranteed delivery contracts with 100 per cent acceptance. May be limited to certain companies and locations. Spring production sign up not required.
- Canada Western Amber Durum (AC Navigator): Contract payments of $2.50 a tonne on eligible grades of Nos. 1 and 2 CWAD.
- Canada Western Extra Strong wheat: Contract payments of at least $15 per tonne and guaranteed acceptance for eligible grades of Nos. 1 and 2 CWES.
Spring production sign-up forms for all IPCP programs except select winter wheat must be completed by June 20 and are available at elevators or through the CWB.
