Farmers in Manitoba’s central, southwest and eastern regions were able to push forward with harvest as the weather dried up last week, the province reported Monday in its weekly crop update.
Relatively few canola acres, especially in the northwest, remain unharvested, while yields on harvested crop are just under 30 bushels per acre on average. Flax is 75-80 per cent harvested in the southwest, and yields so far range around 20-35 bu./ac.
The province’s soybean harvest is about 75 per cent complete and averaging around 37 bu./ac., with some central-region fields (the region south of Portage la Prairie) reporting yields as high as 50 bu./ac. or more. The grain corn harvest has yet to get generally underway while silage corn harvest is nearly wrapped up with above-average yields overall.

Rain fell onto the southern half of Alberta last week, while hot and dry conditions persisted in the northern half, according to the province’s crop report released on July 18.
The province’s potato harvest is about 85 per cent done, with yields reported average to above average. Some producers around Carberry, in the west-central area, have finished.
“Minimal acres” of sunflowers have been harvested so far as crops continue to dry down, with yields so far varying from 1,300 to 2,200 pounds per acre. Edible bean acres are 95 per cent harvested, with pinto and navy yields around 1,700 lbs./ac.
Winter wheat and fall rye emergence improved on recent rainfall in northerly areas of the southwest. Hay and pasture fields, however, need rain and remain in below-average condition except in the province’s northwest. Alfalfa seed harvest ranges from 10 per cent complete in the north Interlake to 50 per cent around Ashern and 65 per cent in the south Interlake. Organic growers have less than 10 per cent of their cereal and flax acres remaining to harvest.
