The Saskatchewan and federal governments will invest $276,000 in a new agency to develop the province’s biofuel sector.

Expanding its mandate beyond ethanol into other farmed fuels, the Saskatchewan Biofuels Development Corp. includes members of the former Saskatchewan Ethanol Development Council and representatives from the biodiesel sector and Saskatchewan Canola Development Commission.

The new organization is the only provincially based, industry-led biofuels organization in Canada, the province said in a release Friday.

With this funding the new development corporation will, over a two-year project term, analyze the market environment for ethanol and biodiesel, develop workshops on marketing alliances for biofuel producers and continue the former SEDC’s advocacy role, the province said.

The province will kick in $150,000 and Ottawa $126,000.
