  • Canadian foreign minister Anita Anand met with her Chinese counterpart in Beijing, with trade at the top of the agenda. “Both ministers reaffirmed a shared commitment to engage at all levels to ensure the relationship and strategic partnership continue to move forward constructively and pragmatically,” said a government statement following the meeting.
  • United States President Donald Trump said his proposed 100 per cent tariffs on Chinese imports beginning Nov. 1 would not be sustainable, but claimed “they forced me to do that,” in an interview with the Fox Business Network. Trump is still set to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in two weeks.
  • Hamas reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a ceasefire agreement with Israel, pledging to hand over the remains of all dead Israeli hostages. The group also called for an increase of aid into Gaza and a start to the reconstruction process.
