Global Markets: Restraint urged between Israel/Iran

  • Israel is being cautioned by world leaders not to retaliate after Iran attacked Israeli territory over the weekend. An estimated 99 per cent of the hundreds of drones and missiles launched by Iran were intercepted, according to reports. Iran’s attack came less than two weeks after a suspected Israeli attack on an Iranian consular building in Syria.

 

  • The criminal trial against former United States President Donald Trump began in New York Monday, with Trump facing charges related to a hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. Jury selection is expected to take a week. Trump has pleaded not guilty but faces three other criminal prosecutions and other legal challenges.

 

  • Tesla will lay off more than 10 per cent of its global workforce, according to reports, as the electric car maker deals with poor sales as competition in the sector intensifies. Some workers in Texas and California have already been notified of the layoffs.
