- Israeli forces stormed a hospital in the southern Gaza city of Rafah on Thursday, claiming there was “credible intelligence” that Hamas had previously held hostages in the facility. Meanwhile, an Israeli air strike in southern Lebanon reportedly killed 10 civilians, including five children, and Hezbollah has vowed retaliation.
- The United Kingdom fell into a recession in the second half of 2023, according to the latest British inflation data, with the gross domestic product contracting by 0.3 per cent in the last quarter of the year after dipping 0.1 per cent the previous quarter.
- Canadian manufacturing sales were down by 0.7 per cent in December after rising 1.5 per cent the previous month, according to a report from Statistics Canada. Motor vehicle sales were down by 13.5 per cent during the month, coming in at C$4.4 billion. On an annual basis, total manufacturing sales increased by 1.1 per cent in 2023 at C$828.8 billion, after rising by 17.9 per cent in 2022.
