Global Markets: Russian plane carrying Ukrainian POWs crashes

  • A Russian military transport plane carrying 74 passengers, including 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war, crashed on Wednesday in a border area near the city of Belgorod killing everyone onboard. The cause of the crash was not immediately confirmed, with Russia blaming Ukraine.

 

  • Former United States President Donald Trump easily won the primary vote in New Hampshire over his main challenger former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley on Tuesday, moving closer to securing the nomination to run as the Republican candidate in the upcoming presidential election. Haley was also the former governor of South Carolina, where the next major primary will be held in late-February.

 

  • A U.N. training centre sheltering thousands of people in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis caught fire amid the escalating fighting in the region between Israel and Hamas, resulting in mass casualties, according to reports.
