  • Statistics Canada reported on Tuesday that inflation in December rose to 3.4 per cent on an annual basis, compared to 3.1 per cent in November and matching the high end of analysts’ expectations. Higher prices for food, gasoline, air travel, passenger vehicles, and rent were the root causes for the increase. Eyes have now turned toward the Bank of Canada as what the central bank will do with its key interest rate. Analysts still expect the BoC to maintain its freeze, but then delay any rate reductions further into 2024.
