  • Houthi rebels in Yemen attacked another cargo vessel on Tuesday, according to reports. The MSC United VIII was en route from Saudi Arabia to Pakistan when rebel naval forces approached the container ship. After the MSC United VIII refused to halt, the rebels fired missiles at it. The Mediterranean Shipping Company reported the crew were safe and didn’t suffer any injuries. Earlier that day, an unmanned aerial vehicle said to have been operated by the rebels was shot down by a warship when it approached another cargo vessel.

  • Israeli Defense Forces pressed their attacks into refugee camps in central Gaza on Wednesday just as the civilian death toll reportedly surpassed 21,000, said reports. The United Nations stated the IDF struck at the Bureij, Nuseirat and Maghazi camps in recent days. Meanwhile, the IDF warned the fighting is very likely to continue for several months.

 

  • Ukrainian forces hit a Russian amphibious assault ship in the Crimean port of Feodosia on Tuesday. The Novocherkassk was apparently hit with cruise missiles launched from aircraft. Reports were mixed as to whether it was sunk or disabled. Without the Novocherkassk, Ukraine said there was now less chance of any possible Russian landing in the Crimea.

 

  • In a year-end interview with CBC News aired on Christmas Day, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reiterated he’s not stepping down. Despite several recent policy announcements, Trudeau’s governing Liberals continued to fall behind the opposition Conservatives in the polls. The Liberals have an agreement with the third party New Democrats to keep the minority government in power until 2025 on certain conditions.
