Streets around the courthouse will be blocked off, with multiple checkpoints for trial attendees. The trial is scheduled to last at least nine months.
– The Taliban has named its interim government in Afghanistan. The all-male cabinet is led by Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, who is on a United Nations blacklist. China has welcomed the new government, but the United States and other western nations have raised concerns over the background of some members. The lack of women or anyone not closely associated with the Taliban was also noted.
