Canadian Dollar and Business Outlook: Loonie up to start week

WINNIPEG – The Canadian dollar slightly increased, getting closer to 80 cents United States on Monday.

As of 8:54 a.m. CDT, the loonie was at US$0.7964 or US$1=C$1.2557, compared to US$0.7952 or US$1=C$1.2575 when markets closed on Friday.

Crude oil was mostly steady on Monday. Brent crude oil increased one U.S. cent per barrel to US$74.11. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) decreased nine cents to US$71.98/barrel. Western Canadian Select (WCS) gained one cent to US$57.90/barrel.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index rose 14.85 points at 20,203.28.

Gold went up US$1.34 per ounce to US$1,803.48.
