John Deere DB120 Planter

Here s a corn planter to help eastern farmers grow their crops with western efficiency. In fact, though, the biggest market for the new John Deere 120-foot DB planter may be on diversified farms west of the Ontario border.

Either way, your neighbour will turn heads for sure if they buy one, and with its 48 30-inch rows, you won t be able to stop yourself from dreaming how much you could get done if you took that to the field.

This new planter comes equipped with a 125 bushels of seed capacity, and also incorporates the CCS Refuge Plus system, which is a third tank for corn growers who want to automatically plant a Bt refuge.

The planter also comes with John Deere s new Max-Emerge XP or Pro-Series XP row units. These row units are heavier and easier to maintain than the previous Max Emerge plus row units. The RowCommand individual row control system controls the seed output on every row through the use of low-amperage clutches inside the Pro-Shaft drive gearbox. This works in conjunction with the full-feature SeedStar 2 monitoring system, which is fully integrated with GPS and graphically monitors row population and spacing, row failure, average population, vacuum level, fertilizer pressure, acres planted and tractor speed.

TerraStar Imprint Wheel

When I first saw the TerraStar Imprint Wheel I thought it was a packer or soil roller/conditioner which could be put on the back of a land cultivator. It is a molded poly wheel designed to consolidate the soil while creating a structured reservoir system in the soil to manage water flow, reduce erosion, and increase the soil surface area and water infiltration.

The imprint wheel works behind any type of tillage and increases the surface area which helps retain soil moisture without oversaturation for improved soil structure. According to May-Wes, this leads to less fertilizer runoff, a reduction in soil erosion and an increase in soil temperature, which will ultimately boost germination.
