Passwords

1. All passwords should be at least eight to 10 characters long. Longer passwords are better, so use at least 20 characters for sensitive passwords such as protecting your computer.

2. Use a mix of letters, numbers and where possible, special characters such as * or #.

3. Don’t give your passwords to anyone, especially “phishing” emails.

4. Avoid passwords that would be found in any dictionary (in any

language). Also resist the temptation to simply spell a word backwards.

5. Do not use consecutive numbers or letters.

6. Avoid passwords that are easily guessed such as names, birthdays, and items found in your office.

7. Do not use the same password for more than one account.

8. Change all passwords every four to six weeks. If you suspect an account has been compromised by hackers, change your password immediately.
