Global Markets: Chinese doctor dies of coronavirus

WINNIPEG, Feb. 18 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– A head doctor at one of Wuhan’s main hospitals has died of the COVID-19 coronavirus. Liu Zhiming was the director of Wuhan Wuchang Hospital. He died at 10:30 a.m. local time on Tuesday, according to Chinese state television. Last week, a senior Chinese health official said 1,716 health workers have been infected by the disease, and six have died.

– Leaders of Canada’s oil and gas industry have decried protestors who have disrupted the country’s transportation channels in the name of Indigenous land rights and anti-pipeline activism. “It’s going to inconvenience and cause a lot of challenges in the supply chain for a lot of Canadians,” said Murray Mullen, CEO of the Mullen Group, a trucking company that services Canada’s oil patch, to CBC’s Carol Off.
