A distribution deal with a major pharmacy/retail chain in Western Canada is expected to raise the profile of a Prince Edward Island honey company’s solid honey tablets.
Island Abbey Foods on Thursday announced its Honibe-brand Honey Drops will now be sold in all 69 London Drugs stores in the four western provinces.
Under the slogan “A honey you can hold,” the Montague-based company’s Honey Drops are soluble tablets of pure honey, for use in sweetening coffee and tea. Each tablet is equivalent to five grams or one teaspoon of liquid honey.

Island Abbey, which also sells various flavours of specialty liquid honey, bills its creation as “the healthy alternative to the sugar cube” and says it “offers a solution for honey lovers who are tired of sweetening their hot beverages with messy liquid honey.”
London Drugs, headquartered in Richmond, B.C., is “an extremely innovative company that truly sees the health benefits of our Honey Drops and the future growth of our Honibe brand,” Island Abbey president John Rowe said in a release Thursday.
Honibe’s availability varies across North America, with some areas only able to source the product online, either directly through Island Abbey or through Amazon.com’s online grocery service.
In several provinces and states, the product is available in a limited number of health food, specialty grocery and gift shops, as well as through Sobeys stores in Atlantic Canada.
Starting in June, Island Abbey began distributing Honey Drops to Whole Foods stores in northern Nevada and northern California. Some Fred Meyer stores in the western U.S. also carry the product.
